Technology Skills for Kids This is a series of 12 picture books that teach kids about safe & responsible technology use. Book 1 – “Mental Preparation” Our devices only know what we tell them therefore we must be very careful what we tell them. Book 2 – “Graphical User Interfaces” Fun fact: GUIs begin on a graphic designer’s drawing board. Book 3 – “Technology Basics” “Wilby” unknowingly performed the select all keyboard shortcut as he was in the midst of typing a very long email message. Book 4 – “Technology Toolbox: Brain, Internet Connection & Search” Positive collaborations (i.e. working together to achieve a clearly defined goal) are always very rewarding. Book 5 – “Technology Toolbox: Forms & Menus” “noodle around” for menus Book 6 – “Building Your Technology Foundation: Overview, Geeky Terms and Passwords” It is important to have a strong technology foundation. Book 7 – “Building Your Technology Foundation: Know What You Are Using” “Tough Cookie” is searching the web for info on his “old” device. Book 8 – “Building Your Technology Foundation: Free From Malware” Outsourcing the administration of your device is another great way to get malware installed onto it and/or locked out of it. Book 9 – “File Management” In a nutshell, you may not be able get something done (e.g. complete a homework assignment), if you do not have the necessary files. Book 10 – “Good Help is (not) Hard to Find” There is no “I” in TEAM. Book #11 – Tech Use Tales: “Ed Loves Trains” As Ed was creating his presentation on the history of trains, he sought out good help (and good fellowship). Book #12 -Tech Use Tales: “Rory the Writer” Sometimes technology use calls for some detective work!
